Hi hello ! This is my second post on my dear blog and I still feel I am not doing well enough compared to those people who design their blogs beautifully. I guess I should put in more commitment to my blog ? Oh well, I guess this is the most I can commit.
My post today is with regards to our future. How many of us can really stand up firm and say that the career I chose, or the degree I'm doing is really my choice and I wasn't influenced or talked into doing whatever it is I am doing now. How many ? Problem is many of us and I mean many of us are not actually doing what we like. Most of the people I ask in my university, tell me that they are not quite keen on taking the particular degree but because their dad / mom / relatives and etc told them to, that is why they are doing it
These are the people who actually suffer because, they are not doing what they like. They are just living another's dream. No offence to all the parents or elderly out there, I know that you guys have been in the world longer than the younger generation and that you only want what is best for them. But you must always know, a lifetime is the only thing everyone in this world has. How to live it should always be their decision and only belong to them. If you decide everything for them, then why give them a unique name ? Why not just create clones and robots and just name them after you ?
When you dictate them like this, they won't find their purpose of life, they won't find that one thing that gives them satisfaction, they won't get the happiness of doing what they want. I'm sure many parents and elders are doing or did the careers or jobs that were set for them by their parents and elders. Did you enjoy your job ? Did you go to work everyday with a smile on your face and the enthusiasm that you want to learn or achieve something today ? I can guarantee most of you will say No, because you didn't enjoy what you did. Likewise, the child whom you asked to take that certain degree is not happy with what he or she is doing, how will they put their best effort. Even if they were to put in that effort, they don't learn anything due to lack of interest.
So I hope one day, when your child / grandchild / niece / nephew asks you, what degree should I take, what career should I pursue, all you would be parents / grandparents / relatives would say : Do what you like, do what interests you, do something which you know will give you satisfaction and happiness, because when you do what you like, you will do anything and everything to overcome the obstacles that comes between you and that career/job.
Hmmmmm, it is getting late. I guess i have got to sign off, having my SoftSkills Talk tomorrow at campus. Good day and GOD bless.
